Steve’s Background of Service
Steve Jones has dedicated his life to serving and protecting the people of Calvert County. He served for 32 years with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, retiring at the rank of Major after serving as the agency’s Homeland Security Commander. He is also a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy leadership program.
Steve’s commitment to public service extends well beyond law enforcement. He served as a member and two-year chairman of the Calvert County Planning Commission, as well as a member of the Calvert County Employee Retirement Board, Employee Recognition Committee, and Board of License Commissioners, an appointment he received from Governor Larry Hogan. He has also served on the United Way Board, participated in Neighborhood Watch, and volunteered as a firefighter.
As a founding member of the Southern Maryland Chiefs Firearms Instructors Association, Steve has helped advance professional training and public safety throughout the region. He was also the first person in Calvert County, and the State of Maryland, to implement the federal Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA, often better known as HR-218).
Steve is an unaffiliated candidate who is not tied to any political party. His record reflects a lifetime of leadership, service, and commitment to his community. As County Commissioner, he will answer to the citizens he serves, not to a political party. He will bring his experience and dedication to county government, working with residents, protecting Calvert County’s quality of life, and ensuring that everyone has a seat at the table.
